Candahar Ghuznee Cabul 1842, with ‘Victoria Regina’ obverse (Thos. Wilkes, 40th Regt.) impressed naming, fitted with scroll suspension, edge bruising and polished, otherwise nearly very fine and scarce £400-500

Thomas Wilkes, a Cabinet Key Maker by trade, was born at Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, and was attested for the 40th Foot at Coventry on 15 November 1839. He served in Lower and Upper Scind, Belloochistan and Affghanistan for two years 111 days and was ‘granted a Medal inscribed Candahar Ghuznee Cabul 1842 for 2nd Affghan Campaign.’ He was discharged unfit at Canterbury on 1 March 1846. Sold with copy discharge papers.
