M.B.E. London Gazette 18 February 1943:
‘In recognition of gallant and distinguished services in the Middle East during the period May to October 1942.’

The original Recommendation states: ‘Since he arrived in the Middle East Command in April 1941, this officer has shewn outstanding devotion to duty. He has worked exceptionally long hours, not only serving his own Unit, but equipping other Air Formation Signals Units in the Middle East Command, in which work he has shewn outstanding initiative and drive.’

Geoffrey Evelyn was born in Coldharbour, Surrey, and attested for the Royal Engineers (Territorial Force), serving with them during the Great War on the Western Front from 23 December 1914. He was awarded his Territorial Force Efficiency Medal per Army Order 65 of February 1921; and his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal per Army Order 81 of April 1936. He was commissioned Lieutenant (Quartermaster) in the Royal Corps of Signals on 31 May 1939, and served with the Royal Signals throughout the Second World War, being created a Member of the Order of the British Empire for his gallant and distinguished services in the Middle East Command. Advanced Captain (Quartermaster), he was awarded his Territorial Efficiency Decoration following his retirement.
