damaged outer envelope of issue, addressed to ‘Mr. H. J. Noakes, 8 North Lane, Portslade, nr. Brighton’; together with the recipient’s Silver War Badge, the reverse officially numbered ‘371780’; and card identity tag, good very fine (7) £120-£160

Walter White was born in Aspley Guise, Bedfordshire, and attested there for the Bedfordshire Regiment. He served with the 2nd Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front, and was killed in action on 8 May 1918. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium.

Frederick Edward Darkins was born in Somerleyton, Suffolk, and attested for the Suffolk Regiment at Pakefield, Suffolk. Transferring to the Bedfordshire Regiment, he served with the 2nd Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front, and was taken Prisoner of War. He died in captivity on 19 October 1918, and is buried in Cologne Southern Cemetery, Germany.

Henry John Noakes attested for the Bedfordshire Regiment on 17 August 1916 and served with them during the Great War on the Western Front. He was discharged on 25 March 1918, due to disablement or ill health dating from 10 August 1917, and was awarded a Silver War Badge.
