Edward Knott attested for the Royal West Kent Regiment and served with the 10th Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front. He was killed in action on 23 March 1918. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, France.

Edwin C. Holmes attested for the Royal West Kent Regiment and served with the 7th Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front. He was killed in action on 19 September 1918, on the Hindenburg Line. The son of Mr. & Mrs. Holmes, of Queenborough, Kent, he is buried in Unicorn Cemetery, and is additionally commemorated on the Queenborough War Memorial. The Guardian & East Kent Advertiser of 12 October 1918 reported: ‘Mr. E. J. Holmes of High Street, Queenborough has just received the distressing news of the death in France of his son Pte. Edwin Holmes, R.W. Kents, serving in the machine gun section. He had been wounded on a previous occasion and had only returned to France about six weeks ago. The deepest sympathy goes out to the bereaved family.’

His brother, Private B. T. Holmes of the South Staffordshire Regiment was killed in action on 24 March 1918, also in France.

William James Hook, of Gravesend, Kent, attested for the Royal West Kent Regiment and served with the 7th Battalion during the Great War in the Middle East. He was killed in action at the battle of Gaza, during the attack on Samson’s Ridge, on 19 April 1917, and is buried in Gaza War Cemetery.
