St. James’s Royal Volunteers Officer’s Spadroon c1794-1801. The 81cm straight blade with a single full length fuller, the back edge engraved ‘J.J.Runkel Solingen’. The blade faintly etched with the ‘GR” cypher and Royal Arms. Gilt metal cross guard with decorated langets, ‘D’ shaped hand guard, domed balustraded pommel, reeded ebony grip with gilt brass band incorporating an oval cartouche engraved, ‘St. James’s Royal Volunteers’ enclosing St. Edward’s crown. A replacement black leather scabbard with gilt metal chapes, the top one crudely engraved, ‘GR St. James’s LV’, the etching very worn otherwise good condition £600-£800
