M.S.M. London Gazette 3 June 1919:
‘In recognition of valuable service rendered with the Armies in France and Flanders.’

Ernest Edward (Francis) Tandy was born in 1898. During the Great War he served with the 11th (Service) Battalion, Royal Warwickshire Regiment in France from 31 July 1915. He transferred to the 14th (Service) Battalion (1st Birmingham), was advanced Acting Regimental Quarter-Master Sergeant and was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal on the cessation of hostilities. He was discharged to the Class Z Reserve in May 1919.

In January 1921 he joined the Bristol Constabulary under the name Francis Ernest Edward Tandy. His older brother Francis Tandy died in 1916 having been severely wounded at Ypres and Ernest Tandy appears to have adopted the name Francis from around this time. He was promoted to Sergeant in January 1927, transferred to C.I.D. in July 1929 and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in C.I.D. in 1934. He was awarded the ‘Good Service’ medal for 17 years service in December 1938, and the bar for 22 years service July 1943. Francis Ernest Edward Tandy died in Bristol in 1958.
