A Great War 1918 ‘Battle of the Lys’ M.M. awarded to Lance Corproal A. Corrie, 12th (Otago) Mounted Rifles, New Zealand Expeditionary Force

M.M. London Gazette 6 August 1918. The original recommendation states:

‘On the 17th April 1918 at Mont Kemmel, for coolness and devotion to duty whilst carrying rations to men in the line. He set a splendid example by his coolness and utter disregard of danger although having to pass through terrific shell fire the whole day.’


A. Corrie
attested for the New Zealand Expeditionary Force in August 1914. He embarked for Egypt in H.M.N.Z.T. Hawker Bay later that year, and served with the 12th (Otago) Mounted Rifles in the French theatre of war from May 1916. Corrie died of Tuberculosis whilst in the United Kingdom, 19 November 1924.
