A Great War M.C. attributed to Lieutenant E. Whitehouse, Royal Engineers, for his gallantry in destroying a bridge under heavy fire and thus checking an enemy advance at Albert on 13 April 1918

Military Cross, G.V.R., reverse contemporarily engraved ‘Edward Whitehouse Lieut. R.E. Albert April 13th. 1918’, in case of issue, good very fine £500-£700

M.C. London Gazette 22 June 1918:
‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During an enemy advance he was in charge of the demolition of a bridge. He placed the charges and completed the destruction of the bridge under close-range rifle and machine-gun fire with great coolness and courage, and thus denied a very important line of advance to the enemy.’
