Edward William Sidney Martin was the son of J. E. Martin, JP, of Ridgeway, Newport, Monmouthshire. He served during the Great War with the Royal Army Medical Corps, and was attached as a Medical Officer to the 9th (Service) Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment. Martin advanced to Temporary Captain, and died of wounds, aged 41, 16 February 1917.

Captain Martin is buried at Amara War Cemetery, Iraq.
