Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., 3rd issue, small letter reverse (1848. Corpl. Jas. Cole, 1st Bn. 6th Foot) suspension re-fixed, edge bruising and contact marks, nearly very fine £60-£80

James Cole was born in Coventry, Warwickshire, and was attested at Coventry for the 6th Foot on 20 October 1842, aged 18 years 3 months, a ribbon weaver by trade. He served at the Cape of Good Hope for 11 years 3 months, and in the East Indies for 1 year 5 months. He served in the Kaffir Wars of 1846-47 and 1850-53 (Medal). He was also present during the Indian Mutiny and engaged in the battle of Baraown, near Jugdespore, under Colonel Corfield (Medal), and was awarded the L.S. & G.C. medal with Gratuity of £5 in August 1862. He had been promoted to Corporal on 26 July 1861, and was discharged at Aldershot on 2 August 1864. Sold with copied discharge papers.
