Sutlej 1845-46, for Aliwal 1846, 1 clasp, Sobraon (Patrick Martin 53r....) heavy edge bruising and contact marks, worn overall with partial losses to naming, fair £150-£200

Patrick Martin was born in the Parish of St Mary’s, Dublin, and enlisted into the 53rd Foot at Dublin on 12 April 1843, aged 14 years 10 months. He was appointed Drummer in July 1844 and went on to have a rather checkered career; reverted to Private, April 1851; promoted to Corporal, January 1852; promoted to Drum-Major, May 1852; reduced to Corporal, July 1854; promoted to Sergeant, October 1856; ‘placed under arrest’ July 1857 but no details given; Private from January 1859; promoted to Corporal, January 1860; reduced to Private, 19 October 1860, ‘in cells’ 15th-18th; promoted to Corporal, November 1861; Acting Sergeant, May 1862; Sergeant, 29 June 1862. Sergeant Martin was finally discharged to a Chelsea pension on 21 July 1868. He had also served during the Indian Mutiny and is entitled to the medal with clasps for Relief of Lucknow and Lucknow.
