Fowler); Italy, Kingdom, War Merit Cross, bronze, first three in custom made leather case with ‘H. C. N. Fowler’ embossed on lid in gold lettering, last in case of issue with ‘H. C. N. Fowler B.R.C.S. Puffale. Altipiano. Italia. June 1918.’ embossed on lid in gold lettering, generally good very fine (5) £240-£280

Henry Candler Neilly Fowler was a native of Scarborough, Yorkshire. He joined the British Red Cross Society & Order of St. John of Jerusalem as a volunteer driver (unpaid) in 1915. He served in the French theatre of war from 21 September 1915, and with a motor ambulance unit in Italy, February 1916 - December 1918.
