Visit to Ireland 1903 (Cadet A. H. B. Richmond. R.I.C.) with integral top shamrock suspension bar, very fine £140-£180

Archibald Hamilton Robert Richmond was born on 27 December 1878, and was educated at New College, Oxford. He joined the Royal Irish Constabulary as a Cadet on 3 December 1902, and was advanced District Inspector 3rd Class on 10 October 1903. He served with the Galway Police from 15 December 1903, and was awarded a First Class Favourable Record and a Gratuity of £5 on 3 February 1909 for ‘good police duty in his district.’ Appointed a temporary Major in the Royal Irish Rifles, he served with the 5th Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 19 January 1916, before relinquishing his commission and returning to the Royal Irish Constabulary on 27 March 1918. He died on 17 January 1921, having shot himself in his room at the Royal Hotel, New Ross, co. Wexford.
