George Pitches was the brother of Lewis and Charles Pitches, who were the sons of Mr. F. Pitches of Bilden End, Chrishall. He enlisted in the Essex Regiment, 22 November 1915. Pitches advanced to Corporal, and served with the 9th (Service) Battalion. He was discharged, 17 May 1919, and appointed an ARP Warden in March 1939.

Lewis Pitches served during the Great War with the London Regiment, and was discharged due to wounds, 7 October 1918.
