George III (1760-1820), An exquisite 'Royal' George III gold and enamel memorial badge, 1820, made from a Recovery from Illness badge, 1789, Royal cypher, surmounted with legend regi amato redvci, below mart x mdcclxxxix, rev. glazed, inset with locks of King George III and Queen Charlotte’s hair, surrounded by legend in black enamel georgius tertius rex mag brit ob 29 jan 1820 Æ 81; inside this, in black enamel, chartta regna ob 19 nov 1813 Æ 74, the badge surrounded by a gold serpent and surmounted by a Royal crown, set with diamonds, emeralds and rubies, with gold suspension loop, 70 x 42mm. Extremely fine, most attractive and extremely rare, possibly unique (£8,000-10,000)

The personal nature and quality of this piece would indicate that it was given either to a member of the Royal family or a member of the Royal Court.
