Herbert William Skinner served during the Boer War with a signals unit and the 5th Field Company R.E. He was commissioned in April 1915 and was Adjutant to the 8th Labour Battalion R.E. until June 1916, when he transferred to the 7th Forestry Company, and then as commanding officer of the 367th Forestry Company, Royal Engineers. He retired with the rank of Major in April 1921. Sold with further research including three copy photographs.
