Pair: Acting Sergeant Major J. E. Cole, Somerset Light Infantry
India General Service 1895-1902, 1 clasp, Punjab Frontier 1897-98 (1684 Color Sergt., 1st Bn. Som. Lt. Infy.); Army L.S. & G.C., E.VII.R. (1684 C.Sjt., Somerset L.I.) together with an oval silver presentation tobacco box, hallmarked Birmingham 1907, the lid inscribed ‘Presented to Col. Sergt. Instr. J. E. Cole, By the Sergts. of the I & K Cos. 2nd V.B. P.A.S.L.I., on his retirement from the Service. Bridgewater, March 1908’, nearly extremely fine, the first rare to the regiment (3) £180-220

The lot is accompanied by the recipient’s Account Book, two parchment Certificates of Discharge, Certificate of Transfer to Reserve on Demobilization, and Warrant as W.O. Class II, dated 31 July 1916. These documents confirm both medals and, as he served at home during the Great War, they also confirm that he is not entitled to Great War medals.
