Approximately 100 Baltic medals were issued to the British Army, all to engineers and sappers who were engaged in the demolition of Russian fortifications at Bomarsund and Sveaborg. The medals were all impressed in the same style as for the Military and Naval General Service medals. John Ferguson is noted on the roll as a smith by trade. He was awarded the M.S.M. some time around 1885 with an Annuity of £10.
