China, Republic, Order of the Golden Grain (Excellent Crop), 3rd class neck badge, silver-gilt and enamels, lacking neck cravat, good very fine £300-400

This insignia was conferred on Mr Warren Manley, District Secretary, Chamber of Commerce of the U.S.A., San Francisco, and is sold with two related letters, dated July 1915 and July 1916, the latter from The Kailan Mining Administration, Tientsin, North China, which states: ‘...am glad to hear that you have duly received your decoration in appreciation of the part you had so able played in connection with our tour throughout the United States. The death of our late President Yuan Shih Kai was a great blow upon us and the whole nation mourns for this irreparable loss...’
