An Attractive and Rare Silver Medal Commemorating The Prince and Princess of Wales Visit to India 1905-06, 50 mm, with claw and loop suspension, by Elkington, original mauve and blue neck ribbon and fitted case of issue; together with silk printed programme for the Review in Honour of Their Royal Highnesses at Rawal Pindi, 8 December 1905, this with tear to one of the four pages, good extremely fine £300 -£400

This medal is not recorded in the reference work British India Historical Medals, by R.P. Puddester. This book does however illustrate a similar medal issued for the tour of India by Edward Prince of Wales in 1921-22. Puddester states that 84 of these medals were presented to Indian officers and police on the 1921-22 tour. It would therefore seem fair to assume that the medal offered in this lot was awarded equally conservatively during the earlier tour of 1905-06.
