Duke of Cambridge’s Own or Lord Donoughmore’s Imperial Yeomanry.

Aylmer Powlett Lane was the son of Major General Charles Powlett Lane, late Lieut-Colonel commanding 21st Hussars. He was commissioned into the Montgomeryshire Imperial Yeomanry in 1891 but served with the 13th battalion Imperial Yeomanry in South Africa. He was present during operations in Cape Colony and Orange Free State, including the action at Lindley, 27th-31st May 1900, where he was taken prisoner. After his release he was appointed as Railway Staff Officer from 17 September 1901. he transferred to the 3rd (Militia) battalion, Royal Welsh Fusiliers in April 1902 and served in the UK during the Great War as an Embarkation Officer with the rank of Major.
