Paris John James Luney was born in Belfast on 15 July 1929, and joined the Navy as a Stoker 2nd Class on 1 October 1946, a hairdresser by trade. He advanced to Stoker in May 1947, to Stoker Mechanic in January 1948, and to Mechanic (Engineering) 1 Class in March 1955. He received his L.S. & G.C. medal on 1 January 1968, and was shore pensioned on 7 November 1970.
