Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 3 clasps, Orange Free State, Relief of Ladysmith, Transvaal (5053 Pte. C. Unsworth, Lanc: Fus:) light contact marks, otherwise nearly very fine £180-£220

Charles Unsworth was born at Blackley, Manchester, in 1876, and attested for the Lancashire Fusiliers on 23 November 1894, aged 18 years 5 months, a collier by trade. He served in the Sudan campaign of 1896 (Queen’s medal, and Khedive’s medal with clasp for Khartoum). During the Boer War he was posted as missing in action at Spion Kop on 24 January 1900, whilst serving with the 2nd Battalion. Having been taken prisoner, he was later released. He was discharged on 22 November 1906.
