Provenance: Glendining’s, September 1988.

George Alexander Morewood was born in Ireland, and graduated doctor of medicine at Glasgow on 21 April 1806. He was admitted as a Licentiate of the College of Physicians on 25 June 1806, and joined the Army as a Physician on 7 September 1807. He served with General Beresford’s expedition to Madeira and occupation of that Island; the campaign in Spain and at Corunna under Sir John Moore; the Walcheren expedition; with the army of Sir John Stewart in Sicily; with Lord Wellington in the Peninsula, including the siege of Badajoz; and during the last year of the war in North America in 1813. Doctor Morewood was placed on retired Half-Pay on 25 December 1814, and died at Bath on 24 September 1859.
