Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., 3rd issue, small letter reverse (2229. Sergt. H. Leleu. 2nd. Bn. 14th. Foot.) about extremely fine £70-£90

Henry Leleu was born in Tourne, Belgium, in 1831, and attested for the Cape Mounted Rifles at King William’s Town on 17 November 1858. He was promoted Corporal on 30 March 1862, and Sergeant on 13 August 1868, and was appointed Trumpet Major on the same day. He transferred to the 2nd Battalion, 14th Regiment of Foot on 1 September 1870, and was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal in April 1877. He subsequently served on the permanent staff of the West Cork Artillery Militia, and was discharged on 25 November 1879, after 21 years and 9 days’ service.
