New Zealand 1845-66, reverse undated (3696. Corpl. Patk. Driscoll. 65th. Foot.) minor edge nicks, about extremely fine and a scarce medal to a recipient who served in both Maori Wars £340-£380

Patrick Driscoll was born at Shannon, Co. Cork, Ireland, in 1826, and attested for the 99th Regiment of Foot at Cork on 21 June 1844. He embarked for service in Australia on 10 February 1845, and served with the Regiment in New Zealand during the First Maori War from 11 March 1846 to August 1847, before returning to duty in Australia. He transferred to the 65th Regiment of Foot at Sydney, New South Wales, on 1 January 1856, and served with them in New Zealand during the Second Maori War from 11 February 1856 to 23 October 1865. He was promoted Corporal on 12 September 1865, and returned home to the U.K. on 14 January 1866, after over 20 years’ continuous service abroad. He was discharged to pension on 17 April 1866, after 21 years and 146 days’ service, and was later admitted as an out-patient of the Royal Hospital, Chelsea.
