Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, dated reverse, no clasp (W. H. Whistler. Boy. 1/Cl: H.M.S. “Thalia”) ‘s’ in surname officially corrected, pitting from star, nearly very fine £70-£90

William Henry Whistler was born at Bradford-upon-Avon, Wiltshire, on 6 January 1865, and joined the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class on 27 August 1880. He served in H.M.S. Thalia from 28 July to 31 October 1882, before transferring to H.M.S. Dragon. He was advanced Able Seamen in the same ship on 1 May 1884, and qualified as a Seaman Gunner (Torpedo) 1st Class on 21 October 1889, whilst serving in H.M.S. Anson. He was discharged on 14 March 1893.
