Sylhet Light Infantry Officer’s Cross Belt Plate c. 1880, a rare example in die cast white metal featuring a Guelphic crown over a plain plinth laurel sprays and central Bath star, the centre bearing a circle ‘Silhet Light Infantry’ and enclosing a strung bugle horn, complete with shaped backing plate and four out of five screw post fasteners, good condition £300-£400
In 1861 the Sylhet Infantry became the 44th Bengal Native Infantry, Sylhet was added in 1864, in 1886 they were retitled 44th Gurkha Light Infantry and in 1891 44th Gurkha (Rifle) Regiment, becoming the 8th Gurkha Rifles in 1903.
