The 3-34 Sikh Pioneers took part in the desperate defence of the Tarakai Piquet, Waziristan, on 20-21 December 1919. Of the 250 officers and other ranks engaged, the battalion suffered total casualties of 189 killed and wounded, including all 4 British officers wounded, but not one wounded man was left behind.
