Pair: Sergeant Major W. J. B. Stone, Natal Guides, late Border Mounted Rifles

Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 3 clasps, Defence of Ladysmith, Transvaal, Laing’s Nek (180 Tpr: W. J. Stone. Border M.R.); Natal 1906, 1 clasp, 1906 (Sgt Maj. W. J. B. Stone. Natal Guides) engraved in upright capitals, nearly extremely fine, rare to unit (2) £400-£500

Only 4 Natal 1906 medals, all with clasp, were awarded to the Natal Guides.

W. J. B. Stone served with the Border Mounted Rifles during the Boer War, and was wounded at Rietfontein (known to the Boers as Modder Spruit) on 24 October 1899, less than two weeks after the outbreak of War.

Stone subsequently served Natal Guides, a small hand-picked unit, all Sergeants, commanded by Captain Fraser.
