Pair: Second Lieutenant E. A. Elson, Middlesex Regiment, who was killed in action on the Western Front on 9 September 1916

Edwin Arthur Elson was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the 9th (Territorial) Battalion, Middlesex Regiment on 22 September 1915, and served with them during the Great War on the Western Front from July 1916. He was killed in action on 9 September 1916; he has no known grave, and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France.

Sold with the recipient’s Commission Document, dated 21 September 1915; two original telegrams to the recipient’s brother, the first informing him of the recipient’s death, and the second from Buckingham Palace informing him of their Majesties’ deep regret; and a photograph of the recipient, mounted in a glazed display frame.
