Eric Dunfee Meredith, a native of Putney, London, attested for the Royal Fusiliers, and served with the 19th (2nd Public Schools) Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 14 November 1915. He was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the 32nd (East Ham) Battalion on 4 August 1916, and was killed in action on 7 October of that year, when the battalion was involved in an attack on Bayonet Trench in the Somme sector. He has no known grave, and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France.
