R. R. Flemington was a native of Edinburgh, and initially served with the Forth, Royal Garrison Artillery before transferring to the Indian Army. He served with the Supply and Transport Corps in Waziristan, and was Temporary Major, Deputy Assistant Director of Supplies and Transport with the Wana Column, from February 1921. Flemington transferred to the Indian Army Reserve of Officers, and served during the Second War as a Temporary Major.
