Ward R.A.S.C.) in card box of issue; 1939-45 Star; Africa Star; Italy Star; Defence and War Medals 1939-45, campaign awards in card box of issue addressed to ‘Mr. E. J. Ward, B.E.M., 1 Park View, Lynsted, Sittingbourne, Kent’, with enclosure slip and typed note of congratulations from the Commander of 54 Area, CMF, nearly extremely fine (6) £200-£240

B.E.M. London Gazette 13 December 1945, the recommendation states:

‘During the period since 10 Jul 43 to the present day, 63 DID has continuously maintained a feeding strength in excess of 60,000, and at one period during operations in the Sicilian landings, the figure rose to between 90,000 and 100,000.

During this unbroken period of exceptionally arduous work Pte. Ward has on several occasions displayed exemplary coolness under aerial bombardment, and in addition, has, throughout, shown a degree of conscientiousness and devotion to duty far in excess of what may reasonably have been expected.

His bearing, initiative, enthusiasm and cheerfulness have at all times been an unfailing source of encouragement and inspiration to his comrades, and have always proved an invaluable example to all ranks with whom he has been contact.’
