Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, dated reverse, 1 clasp, Alexandria 11th July (W. Gauntlett, Cap: F. Top, H.M.S. Penelope) bruising over surname and minor contact wear, therefore very fine £100-£140

William Peter Charles Gauntlett was born at Sandport, Portsmouth in June 1850 and entered the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class in April 1865. A Captain of the Foretop - rating as Petty Officer 1st Class - by the time of his service in H.M.S. Penelope (June to November 1882), he reverted to Able Seaman Pensioner in February 1887 and finally came ashore in March 1903. He died at North End & Buckland, Portsmouth in September 1920
