William Myers, a native of Leeds, Yorkshire, joined the Royal Navy and served during the Great War as an Able Seaman in H.M.S. Broke, part of the 4th Destroyer Flotilla at the Battle of Jutland, 31 May - 1 June 1916. The Broke, after hits from several German ships, lost control and collided with H.M.S.
