Herbert Hopkins was born in Ashton-under-Lyne, Lancashire, and attested there for the Manchester Regiment. He served with the 1st/9th Battalion during the Great War in the Gallipoli theatre of War from 9 May 1915, and was killed in action on 19 June 1915. He has no known grave, and is commemorated on the Helles Memorial, Turkey.
