36th (or Herefordshire) Regiment Officer’s Shoulder Belt Plate c1840-1855, the burnished gilt rectangular back plate mounted with a silver multi-rayed beaded star, this overlaid with an ornate gilt mount comprising crowned laurel sprays, these embellished with nine battle honour scrolls. The laurels enclose a circular strap, ‘Or Herefordshire’, in the centre on a domed silver ground, gilt engine turned numerals ‘36’ over a scroll ‘Firm’. Below the laurels two further honour scrolls, Hindoostan’ & ‘Orthes’, standard hook and stud fasteners, the back plate professionally re-gilded at some time, very good condition £500-£700
