18th (The Royal Irish) Regiment Officer’s Shoulder Belt Plate c1844-1855, a superb example, the rectangular gilt back plate with a burnished edge and stippled ground, this mounted with a multi-rayed hob-nail cut silver star. Upon this in ‘dead’ gilt crowned shamrock sprays enclosing a fretted circle, ‘Virtutis Namurcensi Praemium’ in the centre on a domed ground of blue vitreous enamel the Maid & Harp over ‘XVIII’, on the shamrocks above the circle, the Sphinx/Egypt, below, a scroll, ‘China’, below the shamrocks the Royal Dragon of China.
