Royal North Gloucestershire Militia Lieutenant-Colonel’s 1855 Pattern Shako, a good quality example, the black beaver body complete with sunken patent leather top and similar peaks and bottom bracing band, the frontal plate in silver plate of crowned star pattern with plated overlays being a circle ‘Royal North Gloucester Militia’ in the centre on a domed ground ‘VR’, double silver lace rank bands, original broad leather chin strap, buff leather sweatband with attached silk lining, the plate not original to the shako, red wool ball plume with 1861 pattern plated plume holder, minor losses to the beaver body otherwise very fine condition; together with a correct pattern tin but this named to ‘George Trower, Esq., Paddington Rifles’ retailed by ‘R. Macklin & Co., Bond St., London’, good condition (2) £400-£500
