The Essex Regiment Officer’s Blue Cloth Helmet c. 1902-14, together with its Named Tin, the skull complete with all gilt metal fittings, the frontal plate of crowned star pattern with oak leaf and Garter overlays, in the centre on a ground of black velvet the Sphinx/Egypt, Gibraltar Castle and the motto ‘Montis Insignia Calpe’, title scroll below ‘The Essex Regiment’, the plate is original to the helmet, buff leather sweatband with crimson silk lining and supplier’s label ‘Hebbert & Co., London’, the japanned metal carrying tin retailed by ‘Hamburger Rogers & Co., London’ with brass name plaque ‘W. Mc.D. Allardice 2nd Bn. Essex Regt.’, no gilt remains to the spike and quadrant, the front peak and rear spine appear to have been silver plated at some time and the chin chain lacking any lining, otherwise good condition (2) £300-£400
