Exemplary Service Medal issued Zimbabwe Government Gazette 26 February 1982.

Kampion was the Bandmaster for the Rhodesian African Rifles, and ‘it is interesting to note that the RAR Band serve a dual role. Not only must they be professional musicians but they are also required to serve in an Infantry role from time to time. It was during one such tour in 1972, that the Drum Major and six members of the Band were killed on active service.’ (The History of The Regimental Band The Rhodesian African Rifles refers).
