Royal Humane Society, small silver medal (successful) (Sergeant Henry Brace, R.I.C., 12 April 1885.) with integral top silver riband buckle, in fitted Warrington, London, case of issue, edge bruising, good very fine £300-£400

R.H.S. Case no. 22,674: Sergeant Henry Brace, Royal Irish Constabulary
‘At 3:00 p.m. on the 12th April 1885, a child fell into the River Suir at Cahir; the current was very strong and carried the boy rapidly down stream. Sergeant Brace on coming to the bank of the river, at once threw off his belt, plunged in, and succeeded in seizing hold of the drowning child; he swam with him to the boundary wall of the river, which at that place was eight feet high, and here he was assisted out by another policeman.
Considerable risk was incurred by the salvor, as he was in delicate health at the time; he is a bad swimmer, and had all his clothes on, and there was much difficulty in landing.’
