Seven: Chief Superintendent J. A. Reid, British South African Police, Commended for his investigative work during rioting and unrest in the townships of Harare in 1960

Police Meritorious Service Medal Rhodesia Government Gazette Extraordinary 1971/

John Anthony Reid attested for the British South Africa Police in 1946, and was part of a group of ex British forces totalling 34 from the Second War who went to Rhodesia House in London for that express purpose. He was initially employed in Bulawayo, and was then posted to Salisbury C.I.D. Reid was then employed with the Special Branch and D.C.I.O. He received a Commendation as lead investigator in a case of political petrol bombing in the Harare and Highfield Townships in 1960. Despite a reward of £500 it proved extremely difficult to find the offenders, and it was only due to the work of the investigating team that they were bought to justice to serve 3 years imprisonment with hard labour. Reid advanced to Chief Superintendent, and died in December 2004.
