A scarce Queen’s Messenger Badge group of five awarded to Lieutenant-Colonel C. R. Simms-Reeve, Royal Corps of Transport, late Royal Sussex Regiment

1939-45 Star; Burma Star; Defence and War Medals 1939-45; General Service 1962-2007, 1 clasp, Borneo (Lt-Col. C. R. Simms-Reeve. RCT.); with Queen’s Messenger Badge, E.II.R. issue, silver-gilt and enamel with pendant silver greyhound, badge reverse inscribed, ‘94’, hallmarks for London 1968, in Garrard & Co. Ltd case of issue, Second War awards mounted as worn, generally very fine (6) £800-£1,200

Charles Richard Simms-Reeve was born in May 1921, and served in the ranks for 281 days before being commissioned Second Lieutenant in the Royal Sussex Regiment in March 1941. He advanced to Lieutenant in November 1943, and subsequently transferred to the Royal Army Service Corps and the Royal Corps of Transport.

Simms-Reeve advanced to Major in May 1955, and Lieutenant-Colonel in July 1965. He retired the following year, and then served as a Queen’s Messenger until 1977.

Sold with a copy of a Foreign and Commonwealth Office, London slip stating that the Queen’s Messenger Badge numbered 94 is the personal property of the recipient, dated 22 February 1977.
