Kenneth Peter George Godfrey Chambers was born in Waterloo, Liverpool, on 9 July 1927, and was appointed Midshipman on 1 September 1944. He served during the Second World War in H.M.S. Belfast in the Far East from May 1945. Commissioned Sub Lieutenant on 16 November 1946, he was promoted Lieutenant on 1 October 1948, and served in H.M.S. Terror, the Royal Navy barracks, next to the Singapore Naval Base in Sembawang, Singapore, from 9 February 1950 as a Flag Lieutenant. He relinquished his commission on 4 November 1953.
