Alfred James Adams, a native of East Southsea, Portsmouth, was born in Fareham, Hampshire, and served pre-War with the Hampshire Regiment (Territorial Force), before transferring to the Royal Field Artillery (Territorial Force), and was advanced Farrier Staff Sergeant. He died at home on 4 May 1917, aged 48, and is buried in Portsmouth (Milton) Cemetery.

His Medal Index Card confirms that he did not receive the Victory Medal.
