Four: Chief Engine Room Artificer 1st Class A. T. Delany, Royal Navy

1914-15 Star (M.2236, A. T. Delany, E.R.A.3, R.N.); British War and Victory Medals (M.2236 A. T. Delany. Act. C.E.R.A.2 R.N.); Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., G.V.R., 2nd issue, fixed suspension (M.2236 A. T. Delaney [sic] C.E.R.A.1 H.M.S. Hood.) mounted as worn, contact marks and minor edge bruising, nearly very fine (4) £100-£140

Alfred Thomas Delany was born in Lamerton, near Tavistock, Devon, on 28 August 1886, and joined the Royal Navy as an Acting Engine Room Artificer 4th Class on 28 June 1910. Posted to H.M.S. Exmouth on 27 September 1913, he served in her during the Great War until 24 March 1915, and was then was posted to H.M.S. Roxburgh on 25 June of that year. Posted to H.M.S. Hood on 15 May 1923, he was advanced Chief Engine Room Artificer 1st Class on 1 December of that year, and was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, together with a gratuity of £20, on 30 August 1925. He retired in 1932.

Sold with the recipient’s Parchment Certificate of Service; two letters of reference for civilian employment; and various other documents.
