James Tallent, a baker, attested for the Royal Warwickshire Regiment at Warwick on 22 October 1887, aged 18 years, 7 months. He attained the rank of Colour Sergeant in September 1900 and was awarded the Long Service Medal in 1908. With the regiment he served in India, November 1890-December 1891; Ceylon, December 1891-March 1893; and South Africa, December 1901-September 1902. Tallent was discharged at Lichfield on 24 October 1908.
