The Army L.S. & G.C. awarded to Corporal Richard Barry, Royal Horse Guards, later a Yeoman of the Guard

Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., 1st issue, large letter reverse, edge dated (R. Barry, Corporal Royal Horse Guards. 1838) impressed naming, fitted with silver clip and rectangular bar suspension, nearly very fine £200-£260

Richard Barry was born in the Parish of Lymme, near Warrington, and attested for the Royal Horse Guards at Warrington on 28 June 1813. He was one of those enlisted to bring the Regiment up to strength for ceremonial duties in London after 21 officers and 322 rank and file had sailed for Portugal and the wars in Spain and France. He served for 25 years, including 216 days in Flanders and France, but not Waterloo, and was discharged on 10 April 1838. He was appointed a Yeoman of the Guard in 1851 and died on 13 March 1853.
